Bobcats softball splits two game series with Lorain Community College
Cats come back and score ten runs in the final two innings to take down the Commodores in game 1
SOLON, OH- Offense came easy for both teams throughout the day. The Bobcats got plenty of offensive production in the comeback win in game one, but fell short in game two after trimming the Commodores lead down to one until the last out.
Lorain Community College jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead after one inning to open up the afternoon double header. The Bobcats had a comeback and resiliant mindset throughout the series. Once the Bobcats got their turn at the plate, Abby Spalding singled and drove in Rylee Croucher and Kamia Pou. The Bobcats cut the Commodore Lead down to 5-2. Lorain's offensive continued to pile on runs, they had a seven run third inning and had a commanding 12-2 lead after three complete innings. Once again, the Bobcats would not quit.
Croucher reached on a fielders choice, but she would get an RBI in the process, and would eventually score as well. After an RBI from Spalding, and a sacrafice RBI for Halle Williams, the Bobcats would get a couple of runs back but still trailed 13-6 after five innings.
The Commodores would tack on a run in the sixth inning, and lead 14-6. Bryant & Stratton would then score 10 runs in the final two innings of the game.
Sommer Bourne would kick off the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single. After a base hit from Autumn Fuller, she would score with Bourne on a Williams 2 RBI single. Suddenly, the Cats found themselves down just two heading into the final inning of play.
Pitcher Sam Goode would hold the Commodores to just one run in the final two innings. Offensively, Spalding would find a gap in the Commodore outfield, and knock in two with an RBI triple. After multiple defensive errors from Lorain, the Bobcats capitilized and tied the game 14-14.
Pou would put the game on ice with a walk-off RBI triple. Fuller and Goode scored the final two runs, as the final score was 16-14.
The Bobcats had 18 hits as a team. All nine Bobcat batters reached base at least once over the course of the game. Spalding registered 4 RBI on 4 hits. Williams and Pou had 3 RBI each. Fuller chipped in with 3 runs and 2 hits. On the mound, Goode and Croucher would combine for 10 strikeouts.
In game two, the Bobcats would again rally late, but fell short. The Commodores went up 2-0, but the Cats swiftly responded, knotting the game up 2-2. Bourne would ground out, but Brooklyn Gramse would score. Later in the inning, Fuller would continue her strong play with an RBI double to center field, which scored Spalding. The runs continued in the opening inning for the Bobcats. Goode would hit a single up the middle, and Fuller came around to score. Cats had a one run lead after one inning.
In the second inning, Bourne added a RBI for Bryant & Stratton as she would score Gramse on a fielders choice. Lorain would respond and score four runs in the next two innings, and reclaim the lead 6-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
Once again, the Cats had a response. Pou would double to left field, and score Goode. Later in the inning, Pou would score herself from a Croucher single to left field. The game was tied 6-6 after five innings.
Ultimetly, the Commodores added three runs, in the final two innings, and the Bobcats were unable to have a late game comeback, despite more production in the final inning. Gramse would ground out, but Croucher would cross the plate, and Ocean Summers scored on a throwing error. The final was 8-6.
Goode had a team high 3 hits, Bourne had 2 RBI and Gramse walked twice and had 1 RBI on 2 hits. On the hill, Goode struck out 8.
Bryant and Stratton will be back in action when they visit Cuyhoga Community College Friday, April 134.
