Cats Hang Tough, but Fall in Two Game Series vs Edison
Sports Force Parks in Sandusky was the venue for a Saturday Bobcats softball double header against the Edison State Chargers, located in Piqua, Ohio.
Even though weather was a factor for each team. there was no shortage of runs throughout the two games. In game one, the Chargers got on the board early, knocking in an RBI to open up the scoring. However, the Bobcats counterd, this time with a Sommer Bourne sacrafice RBI, which scored Brooklyn Gramse, and the game was knotted up at one.
After each team went scorless through the next two innings, the Charges garnered 7 runs total in innings 4, 5 and 6. The Charges were up at one point 8-2, but the Bobcats were not going down easy.
Prior to the 7th inning, Gramse had an inside the park home run, and in their final apperence at the plate, the Cats executed four runs, Abby Spalding knocked in two RBI and eventually scored. The Cats fell short on the comeback 8-6.
Both Gramse and Spalding had three hits in game one. Bourne and Spalding had 2 RBI each. Sam Goode was on the mound for the Bobcats, where she struck out five hitters in the complete game.
In game 2, runs and hits were not at a premium, between the Chargers and Bobcats, each team had 32 hits combined, but the Chargers earned the two game sweep with a 17-7 six inning victory in the final game of the day.
In the first two innings, the Chargers outscored the Cats 6-2, and in the final three innings they scored 11. The Bobcats produced two runs in the third inning and and three runs in the fourth inning.
The Cats were able to get good production from Bourne, as she was yet again productive in game two, getting 4 RBI to go along with three hits. Gramse's productive day continued as she scored three runs on two hits. Kamia Pou, Autumn Fuller, Sam Goode, Rylee Croucher, Halle Williams and Spalding each had at least one hit.
Croucher took the mound in game two, striking out five batters in the six innings pitched.
Bryant & Stratton softball will look to bounce back, as they travel to Sandusky again. This time to play Lorain Community College on Wednsday, March 31. First pitch for game one is slated for 3:00 pm. After that, the Cats will be back home to play Lakeland Community College on Friday, and travel to Owens Community College Saturday.
