Wolfe 3 HR Day Lifts Bobcats Over Lakeland
The Bobcats took two more games from Lakeland by scores 10-8 and 9-8 respectively. Brad Wolfe stepped up in a big way as he clobbered three home runs on the day including a 2 run game tying home run in the top of the 7th and a 2 run game winning homerun in the top of the 9th of game one. Riley Day led the Bobcats with 5 hits on the day including 2 doubles raising his batting average to a team leading .476. Brad Wolfe had 4 hits consisting of 3 home runs and a double, he drove in 6 runs and scored 4 more. Torrey Roper had 4 hits including a double and his fourth home run of the year, he drove in 4 runs and scored 5 times. Dominic Daring, Tylor Wolfe, John Costella, and Logan Wunderle all had three hit days, and Wunderle blasted his fourth home run of the year.
Game 1
The Bobcats got on the board early when Riley Day grounded out to score Wunderle in the first to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead. Starting pitcher Alex Tackett would cruise through the first two innings keeping the score at 1-0 until Dominic Daring hit a two run single in the top of third scoring Justin Witherspoon and Wunderle to make the game 3-0 Bobcats. Tackett would run into a little trouble in the third surrendering 2 Lakeland runs without allowing a hit before retiring the Lakers on a ground out and a pop out with the bases loaded to end the inning still leading 3-2. The Bobcat offense would strike right back in their next at bat as Logan Wunderle hit a 2 out 2 strike fastball over the right field fence for a 3 run homerun to make the Bobcat lead 6-2 going into the bottom of the 4th. Kade Compeau would take over for Tackett and throw a clean 4th before hitting a few bumps in the 5th. Lakeland would take advantage of a pair of free base runners and a fielding error to start the inning to score two more runs making the score 6-4 Bobcats. Jacob Shaw would get the ball in the 6th, but the defensive woes continued for the Bobcats as an error to start the inning gave the Lakers clean up hitter a chance to hit with a man on and two outs and he lifted a ball high over the trees in left to tie the ball game at 6 a piece. Antonio Arroyo would take over for the Bobcats and work around a few Lakeland base hits and yet another Bobcat error to get B&SC out of the inning trailing 8-6. Dominic Daring would lead off the top of the 7th with a double, but two strikeouts would leave the game up to pinch hitter Brad Wolfe who would quickly fall behind in the count 0-2. He would take a pitch low for ball one and then send the Bobcats into a frenzy lifting the 1-2 pitch high over the right field wall to tie the ball game up at 8. Tony Arroyo would work around a pair of walks in the 7th to send this one to extras. John Costella would hit a two out double in the 8th for the Bobcats, but would be left stranded on second to end the top of the inning. Arroyo would find a groove in the 8th and retire the side in order with two strikeouts. Wolfe would step up to the plate again in the 9th and do the unthinkable by hitting a near replica of his first home run over the fence in right to put the Bobcats up 10-8. Arroyo would sail through the bottom of the 9th recording two more strikeouts while retiring the Lakers in order to secure the extra inning win for the Bobcats 10-8.
Game 2
Solid pitching from both teams kept this game knotted at zero for the first two innings before Tylor Wolfe led off the 3rd with a double, and was brought home on a Jackson Homage single to make the score 1-0 Bobcats. Dustyn Lucas would look superb in his second start of the year working fast and throwing 4 shutout innings. He would retire the side in order in the 3rd and give the Bobcat bats a chance to stretch the lead in the top of the 4th. Back to back singles by Wolfe and Torrey Roper would get the inning started and push across another run. The big blow came, once again, from Brad Wolfe as he hit his third 2 run home run of the day over the fence in right field to push the score to 4-0 Bobcats. Lucas would sit down the Lakers in order again in the 4th and the Bobcats would extend the lead even further on an RBI double by Riley Day, an RBI single by Dom Daring, and a towering 3 run home run by Torrey Roper to give the Bobcats a 9-0 advantage in the top of the 5th. Head Coach Eric Lahetta would go to the pen in the 5th and the Lakers would find some life. A pair of free base runners to start the inning and a timely single would get them on the board. A Bobcat throwing error, a walk, and two more base hits would push 3 more runs across for the Lakers before Loudan Braun was able to get a routine double play to end the inning with the Bobcats still leading 9-4. The Bobcats would go down quickly in the sixth and the Lakers would add more in their half of the inning. Chris Kross would enter the game and record 2 quick outs via a strikeout and an infield pop up. A misplayed ball in the infield would keep the inning alive for the Lakers and they would take advantage as Kross's next pitch landed on the other side of the right field fence to make the score 9-6 Bobcats before Kross was able to get the next batter to pop out to end the inning. The Bobcat bats would go quietly in the 7th as well, and Kade Compeau would enter to pitch for the second time today in a save opportunity. The Lakers would give it their best shot, taking advantage of a pair of base hits, a walk, and another Bobcat throwing error to score twice, but Compeau was able to get a big strike out with runners on the corners to end the ball game and earn his first save of the season as the Bobcats would hold on 9-8.
These two non-conference wins move the team's record to 14-6 on the season, 6-1 in OCCAC action. A record that is good for 1st place.
