Bobcats Sweep Lakers to start OCCAC Play 2-0
The B&SC Bobcats started conference play 2-0 today as they took their first OCCAC series 11-2 and 8-1 from the Lakeland Lakers. The Bobcats had a big day at the plate with 18 hits on the day. Logan Wunderle and Dominic Daring each had three hits on the day.
Game 1
In Game one Lakers starting pitcher Ryan Calvert held the Bobcats in check for the first time through the order, but couldn't keep them at bay any further than that as they exploded for 11 hits and 11 earned runs when they got back to the top of the line up. John Costella had a 2 run triple to kick things off in the third. He would score on a pass ball a few pitches later to make it 3-0 Bobcats through 3. The lakers would answer with a run of their own off of Bobcats starting pitcher Brad Wolfe in the top of the 4th but that would be about all the Lakers manage off of the right hander from Lancaster, OH as we would pitch 6 innings allowing 2 runs off 8 hits and a walk while striking out 5. The Bobcats offense rallied again in the fourth as triples by Dylan Cutler and Christian Boyles and a homerun by Logan Wunderle would stretch the Bobcat lead to 7-2. They would add another in the 5th inning and 3 more in the sixth inning off a Dominic Daring 2 run single and a Justin Witherspoon sacrifice fly to deep center to run the lead to 11-2. Wolfe would turn the ball over to Antonio Arroyo in the 7th and he would look superb out of the pen once again as he tossed a clean 7th with one strikeout to end the game.
Game 2
A pair of free passes and a hit base runner would set the Bobcats up for a big first inning as another Daring 2 run single and a Tylor Wolfe ground out would give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead to start the game. Turns out that would have been enough run support for Jagger Jefferis as he would throw another gem for his second win of the season sprinkling 2 hits across 5 innings allowing 1 run and striking out 8. The Bobcats would add two more runs in the bottom of the third when Tylor Wolfe hit a tape measure worthy blast that cleared the top of the trees in left, and may have left the atmosphere all together made it 5-0 B&SC. The Lakers would score their lone tally in the top of the 4th, but that was it for them offensively as Jefferis would turn the ball over to Adam Wibert out of the pen and he would throw 2 clean frames with 4 more strikeouts to give the Bobcats their first OCCAC sweep. The Bobcats are back in action on the road at Kent State Tuscarawas Wednesday, before returning home for a non conference doubleheader with Owens.
