Commodores Dominate Over Bryant & Stratton, 113-82

January 25, 2023 - - Lorain County Community College's men's basketball team ran the Bryant & Stratton College Bobcats out of the gym Wednesday night, 113-82.  LCCC had three players score over 20 points as they dominated on defense with one of their most complete games of the season.

From the opening tip, the Commodores controlled the game with toughness in the paint, accuracy from three-point land, and poise down the stretch.  Fast starts have usually stalled in the second half for the Commodores this season but not against Bryant & Stratton who they lost to back on November 30, 2022, 85-82. This time around, LCCC's lead ballooned to 44 points with 2:10 left in the game for their largest lead of any game this season.

The Bobcats led only once, 7-6, coming with just over 2 minutes into the game as the Commodores defense limited Bryant & Stratton to 36% shooting the rest of the way. LCCC took a 51-39 lead into the half thanks in part to five 3-point makes in the opening 20 minutes.

Jayden Roberts (Wellington, Ohio/Wellington HS) and Quante May (Lorain, Ohio/Horizon Science Academy) shined for the Commodores, each scoring a game-high 24 points.  May only pulled down four rebounds to Robert's nine, but he had two assists, three steals, and a block to compliment his scoring.

Brandon Fisher (Strongsville, Ohio/Columbia HS) also scored 22 points as he connected from downtown six times and went a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.  As a team, LCCC only missed one free throw (24-for-25).

Lem Payne (Philadelphia, Pa./Mount Pleasant HS) scored 12 points but his real contributions came in the rest of the stat line: nine rebounds, six assists, and six steals. Also cracking double digits for the Commodores was Casey Kelley (Amherst, Ohio/Firelands HS) and Bennett Sulen (Avon, Ohio/St. Edward HS) with 12 and 11 points respectively.  Kelley had a team-high seven assists and Sulen had six rebounds and a game-high two blocks.

LCCC's next contest comes this weekend as they travel to Hocking College in Nelsonville, Ohio for a match up with the Hawks.  Tip for the men's game is at 1 p.m.
