Commodores Swept By Bryant & Stratton

March 26, 2024 - -  Lorain County Community College's baseball team came close to snatching a split with Bryant & Stratton College in game one of their doubleheader but the Bobcats surged ahead in the late innings on the first contest, winning 16-6, and held a comfortable lead throughout game two to sweep the Commodores, 13-4.

Recap

Game 1

LCCC loaded the bases in the first inning of game one but couldn't get a run across after the Bobcats scored one to open up the contest.  LCCC got on the board when Tyler Diluciano (Cleveland, Ohio/Holy Name HS) singled and then scored on a BSC error by the third baseman.

After getting down six runs, LCCC started to mount a comeback.  Kian Ortiz (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) and Joey Mealey (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) scored for the Commodores on more Bobcats errors in the third.  Mealey struck again in the fourth inning when he doubled with the bases loaded scoring Yaniel Valentin (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS), Hunter Cahl (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS), and Ortiz.

Any hopes for a comeback were dashed in the fifth when BSC scored seven runs to got up by eight runs.  Mason Shultz (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) started for the Commodores and went four innings allowing three earned runs with two strikeouts.  Jordan Streamo (Gillard, Ohio/Niles McKinley HS) and Dan Arth (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) pitched in relief for LCCC notching two strikeouts each.

Game 2

Both teams went toe-to-toe in the second game until the Bobcats broke through in the third inning with six runs off starter Silas Skvor (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS).  Skvor finished with four strikeouts against two walks.

Streamo got aboard in the bottom of the third with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by ReDon (TJ) Jones IIIJaden Nestor-Fox (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) doubled him home to get the Commodores first run of game two.  Ortiz tripled with one out in the fourth inning and scored on an error by BSC's right fielder. 

LCCC got two more runs in fifth when Streamo scored on Cahl's groundout to second base and Nestor-Fox scored on Shultz's triple.

LCCC got relief pitching from Caleb Shinsky (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) and Matt Roesel (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) who combined for two innings pitched.

 

Notes

  • Nestor-Fox had two hits in both games against the Bobcats, extending his reaching base streak to 12 games. He now has five multi-hit games on the season.
  • Shultz had his first triple of the season in game two
  • Skvor had his third outing of recording three or more strikeouts
  • Streamo threw out his fourth runner on the season in game two
