Commodores Swept By Bryant & Stratton College During Weekday Doubleheader

April 4, 2024 - -  Lorain County Community College's baseball team came up just short in their bid for a split with Bryant & Stratton College Thursday afternoon at Sports Force Parks in Sandusky, Ohio.  The Commodores held the lead briefly before falling in game one, 4-3, and were limited to just three hits in game two, 10-0.

Game 1

The Commodores got all three of their runs in the top of the third inning after Bryant & Stratton scored twice in the bottom of the second.  Hunter Cahl (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria HS) got aboard with a walk and moved to second after Mason Shultz (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion HS) was hit by a pitch. After Matt Roesel (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) bunted both players into scoring position, Joseph Mealey (North Ridgeville, Ohio/North Ridgeville HS) doubled to tie the game up at 2-2.  Yaniel Valentin's (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain HS) groundout to short scored Mealey two batters later to put the Commodores up, 3-2.

The Bobcats put one run on the board in the third thanks to back-to-back doubles then took the lead in the fourth inning.

Caleb Shinsky (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview HS) started for the Commodores going 4.0 innings pitch and allowed three earned runs with two strikeouts.  Silas Skvor (Oberlin, Ohio/Firelands HS) pitched in relief for LCCC, going two innings and allowing one hit.

Game 2

The Commodores were limited to three base hits in game two as the Bobcats held them in check winning 10-0.  The Commodores got extra base hits from Cahl and Joey Kulwicki (Grafton, Ohio/Midview HS).

ReDon TJ Jones III (Mayfield Heights, Ohio/Cornerstone Christian HS) started for LCCC in game two going four innings with two strikeouts.  Dan Arth (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood HS) struck out one batter in .2 innings pitched.

Notes

  • Nestor-Fox had his consecutive games reaching base streak snapped at 17 on Thursday when he went 0-for-2 against Bryant & Stratton. However, he did have his eighth multi-hit game of the season (team-high).
  • Shultz had his sixth multi-hit game of the season
  • Cahl has an extra base hit in three of the last four games played

 

Next Up

Friday's scheduled doubleheader at Lakeland Community College has been postponed.  No makeup date has been announced.  The Commodores host the Lakers on Sunday at The Pipe Yard in Lorain, Ohio.  First pitch is at 1 p.m.
