Bobcats Roll Past LCCC
The B&SC Bobcats topped the LCCC Commodores in a home matchup Wednesday night at Ursuline college by a final score of 70 to 49. While LCCC participates in the OCCAC, the women's basketball team this season has dropped down to the club team level making all matchups versus the Commodores non-conference matchups. Leading the charge offensively was Sophomore Abby Spalding and Freshman Tonila Jackson with 15 points a piece while Destinee White finished with 10. Spalding also recorded 15 rebounds to grab her 3rd double double in 4 games. The Commodores came flying off the tip behind the hot hand of Cora Sanders who scored 11 of her team leading 15 points in the first 8 minutes of action. Tonila Jackson supplied the offense in the first quarter scoring 8 of her 15 points to go blow for blow with Sanders and keep the Bobcats close trailing 16-10 after the first 10 minutes of play. The Bobcat defense answered the call the rest of the game keeping LCCC under 10 total points in both the second and third quarter, while the offense was able to find some holes in the zone defense LCCC was running and grab the lead with 2 minutes to go in the 2nd quarter. Morgan Parker came off the bench to knock down a few 3 point baskets, one coming right at the buzzer for halftime, to give the Bobcats a 29-24 lead going into the break.
The second half was all Bobcats as Abby Spalding was able to score 6 quick unanswered points in the first 90 seconds of the third quarter to give her squad some breathing room. The Cats outscored LCCC 19-8 in the third and 22-17 in the fourth to earn their first win of the early season 70-49 moving their record to 1-3. They will be back on their home floor at Sister Diana Stano Arena at Ursuline College this Saturday at 6pm in a conference matchup against Clark State.
