Bobcats Start Fall Season Splitting with GRCC
The B&SC Bobcats softball program started their fall season splitting a double header with the Raiders of Grand Rapids Community College by final scores of 4-2 Raiders, and 13-11 Bobcats.
Game 1:
Sam Goode was dominant in the circle once again for the Bobcats. Sam tossed all six innings for the Bobcats allowing 4 runs (none earned) on 6 hits (all singles) and no walks while striking out 7 Raiders hitters along the way. The pitcher for the Raiders matched Goode in the circle allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 13 Bobcats. The Bobcats got on the board first in the 5th inning when Autumn Fuller started the inning with a base hit and came around to score on a Halle WIlliams line drive into the outfield. The Cats would maintain the 1-0 lead behind Goode until the bottom of the 6th inning when a pair of costly errors would lead to 4 unearned runs for the Raiders and ultimately the ballgame. The Bobcats would scratch back for a run in the top of the 7th and threaten the lead as they would leave the bases loaded with a final of 4-2.
Game 2:
The Bobcat offense roared to life in game 2 for 13 runs on 17 hits after being stymied by the Raiders pitching in game 1. A throwing error in the top of the 1st after a ball scorched by Autumn Fuller would lead to a 2-0 lead for the Bobcats, and they would maintain the lead for the rest of the game. Autumn Fuller led the way for the Bobcats driving in 4 runs on 3 hits including 2 doubles. She was followed closely by Sommer Bourne who finished with 3 hits including a double and a triple, drove in 1 and scored 4 times. Abby Southern started in the circle and threw very well. Southern threw the first 4 innings for the Cats allowing 2 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 4 Raiders. The defense got shaky once again in the 4th inning and Sam Goode re-entered in the 5th to subdue the threatening Raiders who got within 2 runs. Sam would finish the game earning her first save as a Bobcat.
Brooklyn Gramse and Autumn Fuller finished the day with 4 hits a piece, Halle Williams, Sommer Bourne, and Abby Spalding each finished with 3 hits. The Bobcats will be in action today at 1:30, 3:15, and 5:00 as they participate in the Aquinas Fall Invitational at Whistlestop Park in Byron Center, MI. All games are planned to be streamed at our Youtube Channel Bobcat Athletics BSCOH.
