Jackson Micheels Breaks Bobcat Single Season Home Run Record
Micheels continues his dominate season with a new single season Bobcat record of 11 home runs.
SOLON, OH- Jackson Micheels has been dominant from the plate and now has a single season record to prove it.
Micheels has set the single season home run record for the Bobcats. The previous record holder, Torrey Roper, had 10 home runs during the 2021 season. In the series against Hocking this past Thursday, Micheels recorded his 11th, and the team as a whole has surpassed 50 home runs this season.
"It feels great." Micheels said with a smile when talking about being the new record holder. "I honestly didn't know the record. I was surprised but I am happy to have it now."
On the season, Micheels hoists a .432 batting average, second on the team in hits with 54, and leads the Cats with 38 RBI.
Micheels was asked about his approach at the plate, "I just try and see the ball up in the zone and try to sit on the fastball and adjust to anything that comes my way."
Recently, in a two game sweep against Cuyahoga Community College, Micheels went 6-for-8 with three doubles. He talks about the implementation of different approaches given how the Triceratops beat the Cats twice earlier in the week.
"I would just say we came out prepared and ready to attack." He said. "We didn't care about what they did to us on Wednesday, we just came out with a new mindset and were ready for them."
Bobcats coach Jake Plata is proud of Micheels, and knows he can always depend on him given his attitude and skill.
"Jackson came to Bryant & Stratton open-minded and ready to advance his skill set." Plata said. "Power aside, his approach and athleticism allow for an advanced offensive profile. The majority of balls in play result in Jackson reaching second base. He has 35 extra base hits and 16 stolen bases. He is a pleasure to be around, earned strong grades and isn't afraid to speak up when he sees a teammate taking an at bat off."
The new home run record holder and the Cats will now set their sights on the playoffs, which begin Thursday May 4. The opponent is currently TBD.
